What Should My Wedding Vows Say?

Don’t get overwhelmed! We’ve compiled some basic wedding vows that can be personalized to suit you and your partner.

If it’s going to be just the two of you, these short and sweet vows are perfect:

“I, (name), take you, (name), as my lawfully wedded (wife or husband). I pledge with all that I am or will be, to be faithfully yours for all eternity.

I will always love you. I will always honor you. I will always keep our love alive and healthy.”

Note: “I pledge” can be replaced with a different word such as promise, vow, swear, or commit.

If it’s still just the two of you but you want to include children/family/friends in the ceremony, try this:

“I, (name), take you, (name), as my lawfully wedded (wife or husband). I pledge to be your faithful partner from this day forward. In the presence of our families and friends, I promise to share with you my love and life. We shall become one in heart and mind through all our years together.

I will respect you. I will honor you. I will love you unconditionally. I promise to be a strong partner, and if called upon to be a father or mother to our children, I will be a loving and caring father. ”

Note: You can change the gender of the person being wedded this way: “I, (name), take you, (name), as my lawfully wedded (husband or wife).”

If it’s going to be a double wedding:

“I, (name), take you, (name), as my lawfully wedded wife/husband. I pledge to be your faithful partner from this day forward. In the presence of our families and friends, I promise to share with you my love and life. We shall become one in heart and mind through all our years together.”

“I, (name), take you, (name), as my lawfully wedded wife/husband. I pledge to be your faithful partner from this day forward. In the presence of our families and friends, I promise to share with you my love and life. We shall become one in heart and mind through all our years together.”

Note: These vows can be shortened by leaving out “from this day forward. In the presence of our families and friends.”

These are just a few suggestions to get you started. Feel free to tweak the vows to make them your own. And remember: Keep it short but sweet or keep it short and simple. Whatever you decide, make sure you have fun with it!
